Qurbani Meat Distribution

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question

Assalamu ‘alaykum.

I want to ask if three goats are sacrificed in a household one for each family member, can one goat’s meat be given for the poor, one goat’s meat to family and friends, and one whole kept for family and oneself

Answer

Wa ‘alaykum assalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.

I pray you are well.

Yes, this distribution is permissible. There are no hard and fast rules for what must be done with the meat. It is merely recommended to share it. (Maydani, al Lubab)

Sharing, however, is excellent. Good deeds that benefit others are better than those that just benefit oneself.

May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
