Summary
This course aims to enhance one’s understanding of sound Islamic beliefs. This is done by presenting the underlying methodologies of mainstream Islamic beliefs and their bases, and by explaining the centrality of Allah’s transcendence in sound beliefs. One of the most important aspects of this course is its illustration of Islam’s traditional way of bringing the realities of faith to life. The course will cover one of the foremost texts (mutun) in Islamic beliefs, Imam Ahmad al-Dardir’s al-Kharidah al-Bahiyyah.
Details

Please note:  The recorded lessons are by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani. The active instructor, for forum answers and live sessions, is Ustadh Salman Younas.

This course covers one of the foremost core texts (mutun) in Islamic beliefs, Imam Ahmad al-Dardir’s al-Kharidah al-Bahiyyah, with the goal of giving students a solid understanding of:

(1) The Essential Beliefs -- i.e. what Muslims must believe about Allah, the Prophets, and the Transmitted Matters -- with clarity and depth, as transmitted by the great imams of Islam.

(2) The underlying methodology of mainstream Islamic beliefs -- the way of the Ash`ari and Maturidi Schools -- including the breakdown of rational and normative rulings, which is the basis of sound reasoning, and a brief overview of traditional Islamic logic.

(3) The centrality of Allah’s transcendence (tanzih) in sound beliefs, and its clear Qur’anic basis. This is done through investigation of the verses some interpret in ways that attempt to assert similarities between Allah and His creation (tashbih, anthropomorphism).

(4) How the traditional understanding of Islamic beliefs assists in bringing one’s faith to life, and is a means towards realization and understanding the light of the Qur’an and the Prophetic example.

This course is suitable both for (i) those seeking a first in-depth exposure to Islamic beliefs, and (ii) seekers of knowledge with previous study of Islamic beliefs (`aqidah) who are seeking to deepen and strengthen their understanding of this foundational Islamic science.

A full Arabic text as well as the English translation of Imam Dardir’s text will be provided, along with other related texts.

Feedback
Assalamu alaikum. JazakAllah khair to SeekersGuidance for facilitating a course of study in Islamic Beliefs. Sidi Faraz does a wonderful job of explaining each line in this poem. He explains matters clearly and with online learning one can re-listen as many times in order to understand. All the lessons are available once the course starts and one can also keep the lessons after the course ends.
