This course is part 1 of the Foundations Certificate in Qur’anic Memorization, which enables students to memorize a significant portion of the Qur’an in 15 months under the guidance of a qualified teacher. Part 1 aims to facilitate the memorization of the 30th part (juz) of the Qur’an, over 12 live sessions. Students will also benefit from learning the methods for successful memorization, and etiquette (adab) in dealing with the Qur’an.
“And in truth We have made the Qur’an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth?” [54:17]
“There are still communities in the Islamic world where men, women and children, for generations, have memorized the Qur’an. Their love is real. They seek to emulate the devout worshippers of previous ages. They are absorbed by beautiful Qur’anic recitation. Wherever they went, they took that love, absorption and worship with them.” (Ustadh Tabraze Azam)
Students will receive the initial guidance needed to produce a memorization schedule as well as regular instructions on how to maintain previously memorized chapters (surahs). During the 12 live sessions, there will be regular examination throughout the course on the memorized sections. Students will have the opportunity to recite to the teacher and will be notified on how to progress. Students will, insha’Allah, also end this part of the series with a high sense of etiquette (adab) of dealing with the Qur’an from the words of some of our greatest scholars, including Imam Nawawi and Imam Ghazali, as well as benefiting from specific instruction, in order to fully prepare them for part 2 of the certificate. More information regarding the certificate is available here.
This course seeks to be a means of re-igniting our love of the Qur’an by facilitating the means for people to attach their hearts to the Qur’an, to be those of long-lasting benefit and to be from those pleasing to Allah and His Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace).
