Quranic Reflections – Why We Worship Allah: Lessons from the First Divine Call
Shaykh Faraz Rabbani shares key lessons about why we worship from the first call in the Qur’an: “O people, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, in order that you may attain mindfulness
(taqwa).” [Qur'an, 2.21]
He explains how the underlying motive in our worship is thankfulness, in recognition of the gift of life itself–and the other innumerable gifts of Allah Most High upon us. This thankfulness is expressed in our worship, and has an end: to become beloved to Allah, by being realized in the meanings of true submission. This true submission is mindfulness of Allah (taqwa).
