Ustadh Abdul Latif Al-Amin

Biography

“’Allah has prescribed excellence in all matters’ said the Prophet Muhammad (Salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam). So a Muslim should strive to do his or her best to obey Allah and follow the Prophetic example, and this cannot be done without knowledge.”

Ustadh Abdul Latif A. Al-Amin is a testimony for the passion of seeking knowledge. For all of us wishing we could progress in our studies of the Sacred Sciences yet find we’re “stuck” because we’re not overseas or in the physical company of shuyukh, we no longer have an excuse. His story begins between Spokane and Seattle, Washington and the game of basketball. An aspiring young man who just graduated from high school entered North Dakota State University on a basketball scholarship. Majoring in Sports Medicine, it seemed as if his career would fall into place yet he could not ignore a feeling of emptiness inside him. He was introduced to Islam and subsequently converted in September of 1996. “What attracted me to Islam more than anything else was the conduct and the character of the Muslims I met prior to conversion,” says Ustadh Abdul Latif as he reflects on his path to Islam.

After spending several years as, what he describes, an "ignorant worshipper," Abdullatif registered for a Deen Intensive program that changed the course of his life. In those blessed days he realized the importance of seeking knowledge in order to personally progress in one’s path as a Muslim. Thereafter, he was introduced to SunniPath and enrolled in classes in 2004. As one of the initial students of the new online institution, Abdullatif studied Aqeedah (Belief), Fiqh (Law), Hadith (Prophetic Narrations), Seerah (Biography of the Prophet), and Arabic with Shaykh Faraz Rabbani, Shaykh Omar Quershi, Shaykh Hamza Karamli, Shaykh Abdul-Kareem Yahya and others. From 2004 to 2009, by Allah’s help and divine success, Ustadh Abdullatif was able to complete 45 courses and continued studying with SeekersGuidance in 2008. He also studied Arabic with local scholars in the Chicago-land area.

Forever a student of knowledge, Ustadh Abdullatif is also teaching and assisting with many classes with SeekersGuidance. He the Co-Founder of Mercy Islamic Tutoring, an on-line Islamic Education portal that helps converts and concerned Muslims in general learn the foundational principles of Islam.
