Biography
Ustadh Tabraze Azam was born and raised in Ipswich, England, a quiet town close to the east coast of England. His journey for seeking sacred knowledge began when he privately memorized the entire Qur’an in his hometown at the age of 16. He also had his first experience in leading the tarawih (nightly-Ramadan) prayers at his local mosque. Year after year he would continue this unique return to reciting the entire Quran in one blessed month both in his homeland, the UK, and also in the blessed lands of Shaam, where he now lives, studies and teaches.
Not much time had passed when the desire for sacred knowledge continued to grow inside of him. He yearned to understand the book of Allah that he was able to memorize. He started taking some courses with SunniPath while it was in its early days. Looking back at some of the inspirational moments in his journey of knowledge, Ustadh Tabraze comments on the baraka of listening to Shaykh Faraz Rabbani, who became one of his close teachers and mentors, and how he found him to be a source of inspiration in his pursuit of Islamic knowledge. He eventually moved to Leicester and joined its bustling scholarly community.
It was there that he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Management from the University of Leicester along with also serving as the president of the Islamic Society. In Leicester, the seeds for his further studies were planted while privately studying Arabic Grammar (Nahw), Morphology (Sarf), Law (Fiqh), and Prophetic Narrations (Hadith) with local scholars in England. In 2009, he left for advanced studies of the Islamic sciences in Shaam.
Amongst the Prophetic inheritors he has been blessed to sit with are: Shaykh Faraz Rabbani, Dr. Ashraf Muneeb, Dr. Salah Abu’l Haj, Shaykh Diya Nasir al-Din, Shaykh `Ali Hani, Shaykh Ahmad Snobar, Shaykh Hamza Karamali, and others.
Ustadh Tabraze currently resides in Amman, Jordan where he studies Arabic, Law (Fiqh), Beliefs (`Aqidah), Legal Methodology (Usul) and Qur’anic Recitation (Tajwid). He has attained an ijaza in the recitation of Hafs and is working on further ijazas. In any spare time he finds, Ustadh Tabraze pursues numerous interests, both in and out of the Islamic sciences. He is interested in the societal, moral and ethical impact of technology on humanity, enjoys singing classical Islamic poetry and listening to beautiful, accurate renditions of Qur’anic recitations in its different recitals. He also researches in Islamic Law and Legal Methodology, Prophetic Narrations, and the Qur’an and its related sciences.
