Is a Woman’s Tarawih More Rewarded at Home Than in Congregation?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Ustadh Sufyan Qufi

Question

Could you kindly clarify whether the reward for a woman praying Tarawih at home is greater than the reward for praying in congregation at the masjid (including the reward of men in congregation)?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

I pray this finds you in the best of states.

May Allah reward you for your eagerness to seek clarity in matters of worship. It is a sign of sincere devotion and a beautiful reflection of your concern to draw nearer to Him in the best way possible.

Yes, according to sound Prophetic guidance, it is more virtuous for a woman to pray in the privacy of her home than in the mosque. This does not diminish her reward; instead, it aligns with what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself taught:

He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“A woman’s prayer inside her house is better than her prayer in her courtyard, and her prayer in her private room is better than her prayer in her house.” [Abu Dawud]

This narration highlights the special value and reward attached to a woman’s prayer in her private space.

And Allah knows best.
