Is Four Rak’as After Dhuhr with One Taslim an Emphasized Sunna?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Ustadh Sufyan Qufi
Question
If I pray four rak‘as of sunna prayer after Dhuhr with one taslim, is it considered an emphasized Sunna or a non-emphasized Sunna?
Answer
In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
It is an emphasized sunna to pray two cycles of prayer after the Zuhr prayer.
Adding two cycles of prayer to these two first cycles which are an emphasized sunna is recommended. A set of salam should not separate this addition.
Thus the best way to fulfill the emphasized sunna of praying two cycles of prayer after the Zuhr prayer is to pray four cycles of prayer with one set of closing salam at the end. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi Al-Falah]
Of course, only praying two cycles of prayer after the Zuhr prayer is enough to fulfill the emphasized sunna regarding this matter. Thus there is leeway in the matter. [Tahtawi, Hashya ‘ala Maraqi al-Falah]
Allah, Most High, says:
“Allah desires ease for you; He does not desire difficulty for you.” [Quran, 2:185]
And Allah knows best.
Wassalam
