Toronto needs a mosque that not only establishes the sacred prayers, but blossoms a vibrant community around it. We want to establish a model mosque that is welcoming and impactful; where all people can turn to Allah and find guidance and holistic Islamic knowledge.

The Opportunity
By the grace of Allah, SeekersGuidance has secured a large church in the heart of Toronto to serve as a mosque and learning centre.

Established in 1907, this historic church has been designated as a heritage site by the City of Toronto. It has been a landmark of the local community at Yonge and Lawrence for over a century. The current facility was built in 1960, combining its historic value with stunning architecture.

The church is located at 33 Melrose Avenue, accessible from all over the Greater Toronto Area due to its proximity to Highway 401 at Yonge Street. It is just minutes from Lawrence TTC Station, connecting it to public transit.

There is no mosque nearby, despite Toronto’s large, diverse, and growing Muslim community.

The property covers 17,700 square feet including a large main hall, which can accommodate hundreds of worshippers; a lower floor with a secondary hall, numerous offices and classrooms, and a full kitchen. There is an adjacent pastor’s house and parking lot on the property, in addition to public parking available nearby and alongside Yonge Street.

In our search for a location to serve the community, this church emerged as a unique opportunity, due to its beautiful architecture, central location, and appropriate zoning as a place of worship. After months of evaluation, consultation, and due diligence, our final offer for the property has been accepted.

The Vision
We aim to establish a welcoming mosque that embodies the Prophetic directive to excellence by operating at the highest standard.

The mosque will host uplifting Friday prayers, as well as the five daily prayers throughout the week, festive Eid prayers, night prayers in Ramadan, and other devotional services.

It will be a place of worship as well as a centre of knowledge and guidance–locally and globally.

Right Image Our aspiration is to transform the church building into a beautiful, serene, and aesthetically pleasing mosque, a sanctuary that will serve as a spiritual refuge for men, women, and families yearning to connect with their Creator.
Learning Centre and Seminary
Inspired by the tradition of great Islamic institutions, our vision for this facility includes the establishment of the SeekersGuidance Seminary.

The Melrose Mosque facility includes a large hall that can accommodate large events, in addition to numerous classrooms. These spaces will enable us to conduct simultaneous study sessions for students and seekers of knowledge–in addition to our mosque and community programs.

The academy will provide our structured curriculum in Islamic studies, youth education, hifdh and study, and classical Arabic. We hope to build a world-class scholarly faculty to guide students on a transformation of intellectual & religious growth.

Our scholars will train and nurture the next generation of aspiring teachers, community leaders, and callers to Allah Most Hight.

This project will be supported by the global academic infrastructure of SeekersGuidance, our parent organization, which serves as a leading online source for Islamic education, reaching millions with reliable knowledge and guidance.

Our goal is for the Seminary to serve as a pillar of support for the preservation and spread of Prophetic guidance in North America and beyond.
Local Benefit, Global Impact
Left Image
Melrose Mosque will serve as a community centre holding programs to enable those seeking to deepen their religious learning to find guidance and holistic Islamic knowledge.

Through educational classes, informative seminars, and engaging programming for young and old, we hope to fuel a revival of religious learning in the broader community.

The mosque will host prominent visiting scholars throughout the year, providing access to world-class Islamic knowledge through its inheritors.

We aspire to fulfill the mission of calling to Allah by embodying Prophetic character with our neighbours and offering guidance and support networks for newcomers to the faith. We hope the centre will become a hub for Muslims in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.

"This is how Islam is going to flourish in North America. It is my humble pleasure and honour not only to endorse this project, but to help it and sponsor it and to be of those who give to this cause."
Dr. Yasir Qadhi

"We're looking at an edifice that can endure for hundreds of years in the future, insha'Allah. With this permanence, the benefit goes on and on and is multiplied. Help secure this facility, and to open the doors—that is sadaqah jariyah (ongoing charity)."
Imam Zaid Shakir

"The Melrose Mosque will be serving a local community, a space for people to come together and worship, combined with learning. For the amount of benefit that is coming from a project like this, this is not a lot of money. The track record of SeekersGuidance speaks for itself."
Sh. Yahya Rhodus

"This is an opportunity for everyone to pledge their support to such a mission insha'Allah, and I am definitely one of them. I would like to encourage everyone to support them in dua, in pledge, and in what you can."
Sh. Muhammad Ninowy
