Are Animal-Shaped Keychains Permissible in Islam?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
Are partial animal keychains allowed, such as a bird head without wings, a body, or a butterfly-shaped keychain?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
A keychain with a small head without a body or a butterfly shape will be allowed, provided that eyes can be effaced or are not visible.
If the depiction is small, such that it merely outlines the human or animal body without detailed features, such that its features aren’t clearly discernible, or it is missing a vital limb or has its head effaced, then the dislikedness would no longer remain.
