As part of the tour, Habib Umar asked Shaykh Faraz Rabbani to address the scholars who were present in Johannesburg.

The subject of the address was the definition of a righteous scholar (or, a true Sufi) as, “A person of knowledge who acted upon their knowledge, so Allah granted them knowledge of what they didn’t know.”

Shaykh Faraz Touched upon the three aspects of this definition of what constitutes a true scholar, with some practical counsel. The three aspects being

  1. knowledge

Examples of the Humility of the Prophet ﷺ – Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Shaykh Faraz Rabbani explores some amazing examples of the awesome humility of the Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) from Esfahani’s work “Sharaf al-Mustafa.” Shaykh Faraz describes how the Prophet would lower a vessel for a cat, and not left it until it was finished drinking. While eating dates with his left hand, he fed a sheep the pits from his left. When his companions divided up the tasks after slaughtering a sheep, the Prophet volunteered to collect firewood. He refused to give a man his leftovers, having him eat with him instead. And he would except people’s invitations, even if the meal consisted of only barley bread.

Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ Teaching on How to Praise and Thank Allah – Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said

In Surat al-Fatiha the believer says “Praise be to Allah, Lord of all the worlds” this is teaching us how to thank Allah.

In a hadith Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) said: “Praise be to Allah, as much as the number of all created things.”

“Praise be to Allah for as much as His creation in the heavens and earth, and as much as His books have counted.”

Shaykh Faid reminds the believers to keep praising and thanking Allah. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) thanked Allah even when there was no food in his house. There is always something to praise and thank Allah Most High for.

Allah’s Light of Guidance is Unstoppable – Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said

Bismillah-ir Rahman-ir Raheem

“They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it.” (Surat As-Saf, 8)

With all that we encounter in and around us in this world, we are often led to despair and we question and ask why.

But do we really think that the Light of Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) can be affected by anyone or anything?

Do we judge our condition by looking at those who are in power and despair when those in power are not righteous?

We have to remember our Lord is Allah (subhana wa ta’ala)! The state of the real believer does not change no matter the situation, as they see the hidden Rahma of Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) everywhere, and they know there is a hikmah (wisdom) in everything.

And if you truly want Him, you will find Him! Trust Allah (subhana wa ta’ala)! Listen and #ShareTheNur! Allahumma salli alaa Nur.

Sayyid al-Istighfar: The Foremost Way of Seeking Allah’s Forgiveness – Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

In this khutbah, Shaykh Faraz Rabbani reminds the believers that it is Allah who gives guidance. Out of His tremendous and unimaginable mercy, Allah has given us all kinds of means to seek and attain this guidance. One of those means is what Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) referred to as sayyid al-istighfar, meaning the foremost ways in seeking Allah’s forgiveness. This formula of asking Allah for forgiveness answers many key questions on Islamic belief. Who is Allah? What Allah’s relationship to creation? What does one owe Allah Most High?

The sayyid al-isitghfar is a lesson in affirming Allah’s absolute oneness (tawheed), affirming who is your Lord. It also helps us to realize everything that one receives is ultimately from Allah and Him alone.

Text, transliteration and translation of sayyid al-istighfar can be found below.

O Allah, you are my Lord. There is no god but you. You have created me, and I am your servant—and I am upon Your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the worst of what I have done. I fully admit to You Your blessings upon me, and I fully admit to You all my sins. So forgive me, for there is none to forgive sins but You.

No one says this by day except granted paradise. No one says this by night except granted paradise.

The Believer’s Response to Trials and Tribulations: Reflections on the Quebec Shootings, A Year Later – Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

In this khutba Shaykh Faraz Rabbani reminds us that the believers are not distinguished by living a worldly life, rather a believer lives with a higher reality and sense of purpose. Understanding the events that take place in this world are not for one to simply indulge in with worldly emotions. Rather they are a trial to see how one will deal with the trials and tribulations of this world. He goes on to remind us that what makes a Muslim community is believing in Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessing be upon him).

Shaykh Faraz goes on to explain how believers respond to trials. In trials and tribulations there is a tremendous wisdom from Allah Most High. What Allah wants from believers during trials is to continue to turn to Him with a sense of need. He ends by explaining how the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) was constantly tried and tested, however he never complained.

This khutba was delivered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani at the Mississauga Jame Masjid (http://www.jamemasjid.org/) in January 2018.

The Company We Keep – Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said

Bismillah-ir Rahman-ir Raheem

Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasalam) said to Syedina Abu Dharr (radiallah anhu): “Loneliness is better than bad company, and good company is better than being alone; to speak good is better than being quiet, and to keep quiet is better than saying words of regret!”

People might blame you for not being social, or for not being around them, but what really matters is our choice of company, as company is infectious – so choose with whom to be!

As Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasalam) said: “The example of good company is like being in a perfumery, either remnants of the perfume remain on you or you will carry the perfume in your hands; and the example of bad company is like visiting the establishment of the blacksmith, where you will either be affected by the smoke or you will carry the scent of it!”
And Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasalam) said: “Everyone will be resurrected with his or her friend, – so choose who you will be with!”
…And as far as you remember Him, you are never alone!
Listen and #ShareTheNur! Allahumma salli alaa Nur.
Jummah Mubarak!
