Appreciating the Blessing of the Prophet (peace be upon him)- Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

In this Friday sermon, given at a historic mosque in Cape Town, Shaykh Faraz Rabbani encourages us to be more appreciative of the greatest blessings we possess: our vast of knowledge of the Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him).

Knowledge of the Prophet(peace be upon him) enriches our day-to-day lives, and gives our family, social and personal lives so much more meaning. Citing the example of Cape Town, whose Muslims were persecuting in horrific ways for decades, Shaykh Faraz points out how they not only remained Muslims, but remained steadfast in their knowledge of Islam and their love for the Prophet (peace be upon him). Their great appreciation of this blessing was their motivation to hold onto it. We should regularly thank Allah for this blessing, as He called us to do frequently.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught us how to do the smallest actions in the most beautiful way. He taught us to put on our shoes, to drink water, and to clean ourselves in the most beautiful way. We should look at our money with gratitude, as well as our free time. By living gratitude, we can taste the beauty of the message, and direct our blessings for good.

As part of the tour, Habib Umar asked Shaykh Faraz Rabbani to address the scholars who were present in Johannesburg.

The subject of the address was the definition of a righteous scholar (or, a true Sufi) as, “A person of knowledge who acted upon their knowledge, so Allah granted them knowledge of what they didn’t know.”

Shaykh Faraz Touched upon the three aspects of this definition of what constitutes a true scholar, with some practical counsel. The three aspects being

Appreciating the Gift of Allah – Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

In this Friday khutba Shaykh Faraz Rabbani begins by reminding the believers to appreciate the gift of Allah. Allah’s blessings are beyond imagination. He then comments on the verse from the Qur’an from Surat Ibrahim: “ If you were to count the blessing of Allah, you would be unable to innumerate them.” Sura 14:34. The believers should pause and reflect on the Qur’an. There is a distinction between reflecting on the Qur’an and interpreting the Qur’an. Reflecting on the Qur’an is a take the Qur’an as a mirror, and ask what is this verse saying to me. Some reflection can be personal. One should reflect on the reality of Allah’s blessing upon you. If Allah is not blessing you in your life you would not exist. If Allah stops sustaining you for a moment you would stop existing. Nothing exists except that it is a blessing from Allah. Existence itself it a gift. Even trials and tribulations are a blessing. When one is sick and grateful and turns to Allah it is a blessing. Allah calls one to have a higher standard of gratefulness. Being truly grateful is to view pleasure and displeasure, ease and difficulty, and success and failure as all being a blessing from Allah. A believer responds to everything with faith. Everything that comes, is only from Allah.

A Day in Madina (Part 5) – Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said

In this fifth part of the series A Day in Madina by Shaykh Faid, he begins by describing the morning of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He begins with how there is no guidance but the guidance of Allah Most High. There is nothing greater than learning about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). While the challenges might have been difficult while in Madina, the companions did not waver and stood next the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) actually and figuratively. The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) came and sought blessings from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The companions did not take things for granted. They sought out the blessings from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on a regular basis. After the morning prayer the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would ask if there was anyone sick they could visit, out of his care and concern for the companions. Worries and concerns of the companions, were the worries and concerns of the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him).

A Day in Madina (Part 4) – Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said

In this fourth part of the series A Day in Madina by Shaykh Faid, he continues by describing how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) loved each and everyone of his umma. He (peace and blessings be upon him) called those who believed in him even though they never met him as his brothers. The Prophet’s actions (peace and blessings be upon him) have been transmitted from generation to generation. Shaykh Faid goes on and explains how after the companion Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) calls for the prayer, the companions wouldn’t stand up until they saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). All of the Prophet’s actions were with absolute humility. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand for his daughter Fatima as a way to honor her (may Allah be pleased with her). He gave attention to everyone, and honored everyone. Respect was learned from Prophetic actions. Shaykh Faid then explains some of the meanings of the prayer that are learned from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

A Day in Madina (Part 3) – Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said

In this third part of the series A Day in Madina by Shaykh Faid, he begins by describing the night in Madina. When Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madina, he changed everything. This included the culture and people’s attitude toward one another. The people’s understandings and perspective changed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was always engaged in something. He (peace and blessings be upon him) never wasted his time, was always doing dhikr, reciting Qur’an, serving others, etc. He remembered Allah in all of his states. When Anas (Allah be pleased with him) was brought to serve the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he was in fact brought to learn from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Everything benefits from the mercy of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) transformed people. A Day in Madina (Part 2) – Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said

Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said begins this podcast by reminding the believers of the great blessing of the light of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). One should be thankful for the sending of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) began his day by using the miswak (tooth stick) then engaging in du’a (supplication). Another day is another opportunity to get closer to one’s Lord. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) loved praising Allah. He would respond to the adhan of Bilal, and then make wudu after hearing the adhan. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would constantly make du’a. These are some of the daily prophetic practices Shaykh Faid mentions about Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as he connected to Allah daily.

Retracing the Hijra (Part 3) – Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said

Through the Hijra (migration) Allah supported the prophetic message. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) called people to Allah because he loved them and wanted good for them. The people didn’t appreciate it. This rejection of the prophetic message was one of the causes to make hijra (migration). When the command came down to make hijra (migration). His first concern was to return things that belong to people that he was in possession of. After the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) planned to leave, the leaders of Quraysh planned to kill him. He took all the means to ward the harm of Quraysh, but relied upon Allah alone. He (peace and blessings be upon him) entered Madina with absolute humility. He built Madina physically and spirituality, encouraging love between one another. The greatest muhajir (emigrant) is the one who abandons everything that doesn’t please Allah.
