Is Your Neediness About You or About Allah? Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Shaykh Faraz Rabbani gives an extraordinary explanation of a line from the famous poem Prayer for the Oppressed (Dua al-Nasiri). The line is an expression of neediness to Allah. Shaykh Faraz explains the reality of people’s absolute neediness to Allah. He also cautions form the subtle inclusion of the self in the expression of neediness, where the self is the central focus instead of Allah being the central and only focus in one’s asking and expression of neediness.

The poem along with a collection of supplications could be found here.

Allah Most High has promised, “Call upon Me and I will indeed answer you.”[Qur’an]
The central adab of supplication is to, “Call upon Allah with complete certainty in His response,” as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reminded us.
This response is in the way and time that Allah wills, but is a promise and guarantee for any sincere supplication made with presence of heart and neediness.

Nasiri Dua: So Powerful, Rulers Would Ban It From Mosques

The least we can do for our brothers and sisters caught in the turmoil of the Middle East and countless other places is pray for them.

This highly potent du’a by the renowned Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Nasir, was recited across Morocco and inspired resistance to the French occupation. So powerful was it that the French President had to issue an order banning its recitation from the mosques. Moroccans date the movement to return King Muhammad from that outlawing of the du’a. It is appropriate to the present state of the Muslim ummah today.
