Can We Share Our 'Aqiqa Meat With Non-Muslim Neighbors?

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam
Question: Recently, a child was born in the family and we would like to hold a Aqiqa gathering to share our joy. In our neighbourhood, we also have non-muslim families. So, is it allowable for the non-Muslim to eat the aqiqa meat (dish)?
Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.
Yes, it is permitted to share your food from an `aqiqa with your non-Muslim neighbors.
Legally, the `aqiqa is permitted, and rewarded with a good intention. And like the ritual sacrifice (udhiya/qurbani), it would be recommended to eat from it yourself, give some to neighbors, and some in charity. [al-Fatawa al-Hidiyya; al-Fatawa al-Hamidiyya]
It is related that Salman ibn ‘Amii said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) say, ‘There is an ‘aqiqa performed for a boy. Sacrifice blood for him and remove harm from him.” [Bukhari]
And the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) also said, “O people! Spread the salams, feed others, maintain family ties, and pray at night when others sleep and you will enter Heaven safely.” [Tirmidhi]
And Allah alone gives success.
wassalam,
