Ustadh Usama Canon of Ta’leef Collective discusses the first safe space created for Muslim converts in Mecca: Dar al-Arqam. In this story, we learn many lessons on how the Prophet Muhammad [peace be upon him] cared for the needs of newly-converted Muslims.
This video was recorded for the “Dawn of Mercy: Muhammad in Mecca” CelebrateMercy webcast about the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) first revelations and subsequent years in Mecca. See this webcast trailer
CelebrateMercy‘s program is a web-based semi-annual presentation about Prophet Muhammad that takes place on the internet. Founded in 2010, it is a non-profit organization that aims to instill a deeper understanding of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) among Muslims and friends of other faiths, by dispelling stereotypes and common misconceptions about him. This is achieved through videos shown on global interactive live webcasts of prominent scholars and performers discussing his character and life, as can be seen on this trailer.
Ta’leef Collective presents a new video series titled “REFLECTIONS.” These videos are short vignettes featuring people from the Ta’leef community on topics that range from religion, culture, lifestyle, knowledge, arts, sciences, community, family, etc.
USAMA CANON :: Born and raised in California, Usama Canon embraced Islam in 1996. Since then, he has had the honor of studying various Islamic Sciences both at home and abroad under some of today’s foremost scholars.
Usama is the Founding Director of Ta’leef Collective and maintains an active role in various facets of outreach and education, concentrating on issues facing Muslim youth, assisting converts, and developing support systems for Muslims living in the West.

Retreat a Success!
Alhamdulillah, the first ever SeekersGuidance Retreat was a success. Over 100 people came from all over the US and Canada to attend the program. Speakers included Shaykh Faraz Rabbani, Shaykh Yahya Rhodus, Shaykh Omar Qureshi, Ustadh Usama Canon, Ustadha Shireen Ahmed, and Ustadha Zaynab Ansari. Two surprises guest speakers showed up: Shaykh Abdal Haqq Mendes from Atlanta and Shaykh Muhammad al-Shareef from Nashville.
Attendees attended beneficial programs covering basic theology, law, spirituality, and adab. They also went white water rafting, horse back riding, mountain biking, wall climbing, zip lining, had campfire nasheeds while eating smores, attended a Mawlid with the scholars lead by Nader Khan, and ascended Buck Bald Summit for a final talk by Hafiz Noman Zaheer.
SeekersGuidance Expresses Its Gratitude to the Knoxville Community
SeekersGuidance would like to thank the wonderful community of Knoxville for helping put this retreat together. We’d also like to specifically thank Hafiz Noman Zaheer of the Ibn Masud School and Saimah Iman for being wonderful organizers. Without their commitment to excellence, this retreat would not have been possible. May Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) preserve them and their community and grant them all tawfeeq and tayseer. Ameen!

This 300-acre park is nestled high in the southern Appalachian Mountains on the famed Ocoee River. Students will be surrounded by the creation of Allah and enveloped in some of the nation’s most pristine national forest.
Almost all of our instructors will be present there: Shaykh Faraz Rabbani, Shaykh Yahya Rhodus, Shaykh Omar Qureshi, and Ustadha Shireen Ahmed. Additionally, Ustadh Usama Canon will be presenting at a parallel youth session during the retreat.
