A Description of the True Servants of Allah – Imam Sulami

“The description of true servants of Allah is that poverty is their honour; obedience of Allah, their sweetness; love of Allah, their joy; tohttp://www.ilmfruits.com/wp-content/uploads/arabic-calligraphy.jpg Allah, their need; piety their provision; with Allah, their dealing; upon Him, their trust; in Him, their intimacy; upon Him, their reliance; hunger, their food; renunciation, their fruit; good character, their dress; cheerful disposition, their jewelry; generosity of spirit, their trade; good relations, their company; knowledge, their leader; patience, their driver; guidance, their ride; the Qur’an, their speech; thankfulness, their adornment; remembrance, their concern; contentment, their rest; sufficiency, their wealth; worship, their earnings; the devil, their enemy; worldliness, their dumps; modesty, their shirt; fear, their habit; the day, their lesson; the night, their reflection; wisdom, their sword; truth, their guard; this life, their journey; death, their destination; the grave, their shelter; Firdous, their residence; beholding the Lord of the Worlds, their longing. These are the elect servants of Allah, of whom Allah Most High has said, “The servants of the All-Merciful are those who tread lightly on earth.”” [Bayhaqi, al-Zuhd al-Kabir, 2.264]

Understanding the Ninety-Nine Names of Allah: Al-Salam

Al-Salam means “The Flawless” and comes from the same root as “peace” as entities are at peace when they are flawless.

Salam is also derived from the same word as “Islam.” While Islam is often translated as “to submit”, this is not the best translation. Shaykh  Abdul-Hakim Murad writes that Islam does not mean submission, rather, it entails letting go. This is because Islam is to have your heart let go of the flawed dunya. Thus, we must get rid of the dunya that our hearts are attached to so that we may return to Allah so that our hearts are clean on the the day that, “Children and wealth will not benefit, except whoever comes with a sound heart (qalbin salim).” [Quran 26, 88-89].

Salim also comes from the same root word as Al-Salam. When one has this soundness about them, they become a tranquil soul. Allah say to the contended souls, “Oh tranquil soul, return to your Lord pleased and well-pleased.” [Quran 89, 27-28]. Only through purging the heart of the dunya will one be able to truly worship Allah and find tranquility.

May Allah give us success in purging our hearts of other than Him and being true slaves of nothing but Him.

Allah Impoverished Servant,
-Ibraheem Shakfeh

Ta’leef Collective: An Amazing Project

Taleef Collective: An Amazing Project

Ta’Leef Collective Video from Mustafa Davis on Vimeo.

Promo video scripted, shot and edited for Ta’Leef Collective (a non-profit) organization dedicated to assisting new Muslims and emerging young adult Muslims.

MISSION STATEMENT: Ta’leef provides the space, content, and companionship necessary for a healthy understanding, embrace and realization of Islam.

Ta’leef Collective began as Zaytuna Institute’s Outreach program in 2002 and was born into an independent organization in 2005 per the request of Zaytuna’s leadership. Ta’leef Collective provides the space, content and companionship necessary for a healthy understanding, embrace and realization of Islam. Ta’leef Collective primarily serves seekers actively interested in Islam and converts to the faith, assisting them in realizing a sustainable conversion to and practice of Islam, and a healthy, gradual integration into our greater Muslim community. Ta’leef Collective also strives to reengage the growing number of disenfranchised and often marginalized Muslim young adults.

Because we recognize the import of these groups, and the intersection between them, Ta’leef Collective offers a model tailored specifically for them. By providing alternative social and sacred space, culturally relevant programming and positive companionship, we assist our beneficiaries in holistically practicing Islam in a way that is reconcilable with their social context. We are a collective of teachers, volunteers, and peers who understand firsthand the challenge of living as Muslims in the west and we strive to provide the necessary means to facilitate that reality. Sh Hamza, Ta'leef Collective, Fremont, USA Eid/Sep 21 09 by enthogenesis.
