20 – The Lives of the Companions (Part 6) – The Life of Anas ibn Malik- Shaykh Ebrahim Moos

Anas ibn Malik was one of the younger companions from the tribe of Bani an-Najjar. He was from Madina from the Khazraj tribe. Anas' mother and brother were very strong in Islam. His mother was Umm Sulaym bint Milhan. Umm Sulaym was one of the first women to embrace Islam in Madina. Anas ibn Malik’s brother Bara' ibn Malik was known to be a fierce warrior and fighter in Islam. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madina, Umm Sulaym presented her son as a gift to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to be his servant. He was ten years old as the time, and served the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for ten more years until the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Anas' greatest title was the servant of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made dua for Anas that he have abundance in wealth and offspring, and a long life. He had 120 in offspring and lived to 93 a.h. He was the last of the companions to live in Basra. In this podcast Shaykh Yusuf Philander  speaks about the companion Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him). Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) was a young companion and was the son of the great companion Zubayr ibn Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him), who was given glad tiding to paradise during his lifetime.  His Mother was Asma' bint Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them). 18 – Lives of the Companions (Part 4) – The Life of Umm Salama – Shaykh Ismail Londt

The female companion, Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), was of the earliest Muslims. Life in Makka became very difficult for many of the new Muslims. As a result, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a group of the early Muslims permission to migrate to Abyssinia. Umm Salama was one of those early Muslims who migrated to Abyssinia. Even though Umm Salama and other companions received protection from the ruler of Abyssinia they longed to return to Makka. When news of Hamza and Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them) accepting Islam reaching them, they returned to Makka. Upon returning, they saw that the story about the ease for the Muslims in Makka had been exaggerated. When permission was granted to migrate to Madina, Umm Salama was one of the first to go. Migrating to Madina was very difficult for Umm Salama and her husband. Shaykh Ismail goes on to explain how after the death of Abu Salama (may Allah be pleased with him), Umm Salama was approached by Abu Bakr and Umar for marriage and she declined. At the end she was blessed with the marriage of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him), making her one of the mothers of the believers. In this podcast Shaykh Ismail Londt  speaks about the companion Mus’ab ibn Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him). Musa'ab ibn 'Umayr was born in both wealth and status. He was  the only child to his mother. Mus’ab left all his wealth and status for Islam. He accepted Islam and was one of the forerunners of Islam, he accepted Islam  three years after revelation. After hearing about Mus’ab accepting Islam his mother tied he up and kept food and drink from him. Mus’ab was able to escape and travel to Abyssinia leaving all his wealth behind. Mus’ab was martyred holding the standard and fighting off the enemy at the battle of Uhud. In this episode, Shaykh Muhammad Philander captures some of the highlights and lessons from the life of the great companion Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). Ali was the son of the paternal uncle of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and give him peace). He was born ten years before prophethood, and born inside the Ka'ba. He was the first of the youths to accept Islam. His mother was Fatima bint Asad. He was  the father of Hasan, and Husayn. Ali was a very courageous and had no fear of the enemy. In this podcast Shaykh Abdurragmaan Khan continues on with  the life of Sayyida Fatima az-Zahra (may Allah be pleased with her). He (peace and blessing be upon him), instead of assisting with any worldly help, prescribed her different formulas of remembrance (adhkar) for assistance. It was from the Prophet's practice (peace and blessing be upon him) to frequently visit Fatima and Ali Ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with the both of them).
