Taking Someone Out of Hell and Raising Someone’s Level in Paradise

Answered by Ustadh Salman Younas

Question: I have two questions.

1. If you are in jannah (heaven/paradise) can you bring someone out of hell and into jannah because they say in jannah whatever you wish for comes true.

2. If you are in a lower level of jannah and your family or someone is in a higher level and you want to be with them can you elevate to the higher levels? Or if you want someone in a lower level to come.to your level is that possible?

Answer: assalamu `alaykum

Dear Brother,

Yes, the Qur’an says that the people of Heaven will receive “whatever they wish” (16:31) and this includes being in the company of other people who are in Heaven. One of the Companions of the Prophet (Allah bless him) narrated the following:

A man came to the Prophet (Allah bless him) and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! What do you say about a man who loves some people but cannot catch up with their good deeds?” Allah’s Apostle said, “Everyone will be with those whom he loves.” [Bukhari]

The Qur’an and prophetic traditions also mention that people will be given permission to intercede for others. Intercession includes asking Allah to remove people from Hell and raising their ranks in Heaven.

Now, of course, we need to first try our best to become people of Heaven by living balanced and righteous lives, being good to those around us, as well as always asking Allah for His blessings, mercy, love, and guidance. I say “try our best” because we as human beings will of course make mistakes and do things which are wrong. We might even do these over and over again. This shouldn’t frustrate us. We just need to learn from these mistakes and continue improving.

We should also realize that words alone can’t describe Heaven; it will be something more beautiful than anything we can imagine. Allah has given us an offer that only He is able to: live a good, righteous life for a few years on Earth and in return receive entry into Heaven forever where you can have anything you want.

I hope this helps, and feel free to ask any other questions you have.

Did Adam’s Seek Intercession Through the Prophet (Allah bless them and give them peace)?

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: Is the hadith true where Adam (AS) saw kalma tayyaba in the sky after being expelled from Paradise and then asked Allah to forgive him on behalf of the Prophet (SAW)?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I pray that you are well, insha’Allah.

There are a number of reports which relate this incident with varying degrees of strength.

Maysarat al-Fajr narrates, “I said: “Messenger of Allah, when were you made a Prophet?” He replied: “When Allah created the earth and turned to the heavens, arranging them into seven heavens, and He created the Throne, He wrote on the leg of the Throne: Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets. And Allah created Paradise in which He made Adam and Hawwa’ dwell, then He wrote
my name [there] on the gates, the tree-leaves, the houses and tents, while Adam was still between the spirit and the body. When Allah Most High brought him to life, he looked at the Throne and saw my name, whereupon Allah Most High informed him: ‘He is the liege-lord of your offspring.’ When shaytan deceived them, they repented and sought intercession with my name from Him.”

The verifier, Shaykh Gibril Haddad, notes: “The Hadith master al-Salihi cited it in Subul al-Huda wal-Rashad (Beirut ed. 1:86=Cairo ed. 1:104) and said “Its chain is good and there is no harm in it.” Al-Halabi also cited it in his Sira (1:355). Al-Bayhaqi narrates with the above chain only the reply “While Adam was still between the spirit and the body” in his Dala’il al-Nubuwwa (1:84) while Ibn Taymiyya cites the entire wording with the full chain in Majmu` al-Fatawa (2:150-151) but he adds “from Muhammad ibn Salih between Ahmad ibn Ishaq al-Wazzan and Ibn Sinan al-`Awqi. If correct, this additional link could be either the trustworthy hafiz Muhammad ibn Salih ibn `Abd al-Rahman al-Anmati al-Sufi known as Kaylaja (d. 271) or Muhammad ibn Salih al-Wasiti Ka`b al-Dhira’ who is also trustworthy, so the chain remains a strong chain, and Allah knows best.”
