How Can I Stop Worrying That My Hymen Might Have Broken?
Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad
Question
I think I might have accidentally broken my hymen. I have never engaged in any wrongful act, but I think I have accidentally broken my hymen. I haven’t been sleeping or eating because I’m so anxious about the future.
I am currently 19 years old, but I keep thinking of the time when I will get married and what my future spouse will think. I feel so worthless and depressed.
Please help me, what should I do?
Answer
Hymen
A hymen that is broken will have absolutely no effect on your future married life and your status as a virgin has not been changed either way. I also suspect that you are having baseless misgivings (waswasa) and that it probably is intact.

Anxiety
Please don’t have anxiety regarding this. Your honor is not at stake, and you should know that bleeding a little when a marriage is consummated does not necessarily happen. Rather, busy yourself with gaining knowledge, preparing for marriage, and personal growth until you are married. Keep this important hadith in mind:
The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), “Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your illness, your riches before your poverty, your free time before your work, and your life before your death.” [Hakim, al-Mustadrak]
May Allah give you the best of this world and the next.
