Is It Allowed to Use Vaccines With Porcine Derivatives?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
Is it permissible to give life-saving vaccines containing porcine ingredients to babies and young children when alternatives are difficult to access?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
The general position is that medication through unlawful products is prohibited, unless there is no alternative and a qualified Muslim medical professional advises that the treatment is the cure, as in your case. If a halal alternative is available without a prescription or through a private prescription, and one can afford it, then the haram medicine should be avoided.
