In this episode Shaykh Yahya Rhodus relates from Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that he said: “to acquire some useful knowledge is a greater merit than to preform a hundred devotional prayers voluntarily”. He also relates other similar teachings from theProphet Muhammad (peace be upon him), that convey the precedence of knowledge over voluntary worship. Shaykh points out that the wording of the narration conveys that knowledge is acquired portion by portion and through exerting oneself. Shaykh Yahya explains that without proper knowledge, the actions and worship may not be sound and that one wouldn’t be able to get the most of worship. Shaykh Yahya then gives key counsels on the virtues of knowledge and how to approach it and seek it.

The Content of Character is a remarkable collection of sayings of the Prophet Muhammad. Chosen by the scholar, Shaykh Al-Amin Ali Mazrui and translated by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, this book was published to great critical acclaim.

Shaykh Al-Amin intended to show that progress among Muslims required not the abandonment of Islam but the recovery of the original spirit of Islamic enlightenment.

In this podcast series for SeekersHub, Shaykh Yahya Rhodus does a commentary on these concise and yet comprehensive sayings, with a special focus on character-building, morals, good manners and ethics.
