49 – Keeping Brotherly Love Pure

In this episode Shaykh Yahya Rhodus highlights the teaching of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) of keeping brotherly love pure. Shaykh Yahya relates that the Messenger of God (peace be upon him) said: “three practices will keep sincere your brother’s love for you: greeting him when you see him, making room for him in gatherings, and calling him by the most endearing of his names”. He stresses that it is only when we recognize that our interactions with others as extremely important, that we can give others their due right. Shaykh Yahya explains the importance and underlying meanings of the greetings of salam.

The Content of Character is a remarkable collection of sayings of the Prophet Muhammad. Chosen by the scholar, Shaykh Al-Amin Ali Mazrui and translated by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, this book was published to great critical acclaim.

Shaykh Al-Amin intended to show that progress among Muslims required not the abandonment of Islam but the recovery of the original spirit of Islamic enlightenment.
