Does Minor Bleeding from Hemorrhoids Affect the Validity of Wudu and Prayer?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
I have likely hemorrhoids and notice minor bleeding while using the toilet. I wait for it to stop, but if it continues, I perform wudu and pray.
If the bleeding stops during prayer and I later see fluid but no blood until wiping harder, do I need to make up my prayer? Should I continue performing wudu without checking if the bleeding has stopped before the next prayer?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
You do not need to check before each prayer; instead, if you suspect bleeding has stopped, you can proceed with wudu and prayer unless clear evidence of bleeding appears. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]
Also, note that any type of fluid that exits will break the wudu. Before each prayer, you may insert a tissue or cotton wool ball to prevent blood from flowing from the exit. [Ibid.]
