10 – What is Disliked of this World ? – Spiritual Counsel: Wisdom on Turning to God from the Islamic Tradition -Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

In this episode, Shaykh Faraz explains the twenty-second and twenty-third hadiths from the Chapter on Matters That Soften the Heart from the hadith compilation, Mishkat al-Masabih, compiled by Muḥammad ibn Abdullah Khatib al-Tabrizi (d. 741 AH). The twenty-second hadith relates us “that this world is accursed and accursed is all that is within it, except for the remembrance of Allah and what relates to it, and accept to a person of knowledge or a person seeking it”. Shaykh Faraz explains that “the world” refers to anything that busies one away from Allah, and that “accursed” means that which is distant from Allah’s mercy. He elaborates and gives advice on how that could be avoided and how one could connect with Allah constantly. The twenty-third hadith highlights the absolute insignificance of worldliness in the sight of Allah Most High. The hadith relates that “if this world was to matter to Allah the extent of the wing of a fly, then the disbeliever wouldn’t be granted from it even a sip of water”. Shaykh Faraz explains how one could attain Allah’s favor.
