19- Wisdoms in Prayer -The Masters and Millennials: Challenges in Living the Way of the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him)- Shaykh Abdurragmaan Khan

This podcast is based on the sayings, wisdom, and quotations of the great scholar al-Habib Zayn bin Sumayt, transmitted by one of his students and captured in the book al-Fawa’id al-Mukhtarah. This seminal work contains advice on a wide range of relevant subjects to daily life, drawing on examples from the Haba’ib from Hadramout. Shaykh Abdurragmaan transmits this advice within the context of the modern challenges facing Muslims living in the West.

In the last episode, the importance of wudu was discussed as a precursor to the discussion of salaah. It must be noted that this podcast is not meant to cover the essentials of salaah but rather anecdotes and lessons regarding the prayer. Lesson #1 draws on appreciating differing views and not obsessing with one correct view. A view held by one Madhab may be incorrect. However, because the scholars followed a methodology and process and applied ijtihad, deducing law from the Qur’an and Sunna, the ruling reached is a valid one even though it may be incorrect. Lesson #2 pivots on how venerable Shaykhs respect all Schools of law, to the extent that they often follow the Madhab practices of the locality when they travel. Lesson #3 reminds us of the serenity and calmness which must be afforded those engrossed in salaah. If reciting the Qur’an aloud is considered a haraam action if it disturbs them, then what about the use of cell phones in the Masjid?
