Question

How Should One Prepare for Judgement Day?

Answered

Thank you for your question. May Allah aid us all in preparing for Judgment day and envelop us in his mercy and forgiveness.

Love

Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that a man asked the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) about the Hour (i.e. Day of Judgment), saying, “When will the Hour be?” The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “What have you prepared for it?” The man said, “Nothing, except that I love Allah and His Apostle.” The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “You will be with those whom you love.” We had never been so glad as we were on hearing that saying of the Prophet (i.e., “You will be with those whom you love.”) Therefore, I love the Prophet, Abu Bakr and `Umar, and I hope that I will be with them because of my love for them though my deeds are not similar to theirs. [Bukhari]

This hadith tells us that one of the best things that you can do is love the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) in order to prepare yourself for the hereafter. This can only happen if you study his life, and his character, and understand his struggles in spreading Islam and his sacrifices for his nation. Also, supplicate that Allah increases your love for what He loves.

Obligations

The next thing you can do is cover all of your worldly obligations and deal well with people. After this, you should busy yourself with supererogatory works.

Narrated by Abu Hurayra, Allah be pleased with him, the Prophet, (Allah bless him and give him peace), says – with the words of his Lord, so this is a hadith Qudsi where Allah Himself is speaking:

“Whoever harms a wali of Mine, I declare war upon him. My slave draws nearer to Me with nothing more beloved to Me than that which I have made obligatory upon him. And then My slave continues to draw near to Me with optional acts (nawafil) until I love him. And when I love him I become the ear with which he hears, and the eye with which he sees, and the hand with which he smites, and the foot with which he walks. And if he seeks My protection, I will surely grant him My protection. And if he seeks My victory I will surely grant him the victory.”

Fulfilling obligations in worship, dealings, and the rights of others can only be achieved by learning them first, so once again, gain knowledge and busy yourself with good, especially those deeds that you do well. If you have a special or useful skillset or a knack for something, help the nation of believers with it, may Allah recompense you well. Seek all help and guidance through Allah.
