Is It Permissible for a Lady to Work as a Police Officer?
Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat
Question: I am a sister in great debt, paying interest, and struggling to find work. I need to help provide for my family and children. Is working as a police officer permissible? Jazakallah and please make dua I get a halal good paying job for my livelihood.
Answer: Wa ‘alaykum assalam wa rahmatullah wa brakatuh.
I pray you are well.
Yes, seeking employment as a police officer would be permissible. It would, in fact, be an act of charity if you intend to protect and benefit members of society.
The general premise of the occupation is permissible. Do your best to embody moral excellent and Islamic decorum. Everything else will fall into place, insha’Allah.
Ask Allah for help with your debts. Repent for getting into interest, and express your regret for falling into it. Allah sees your intention and desire to make things right. Be confident that He will help you, and you’ll see that help. The Prophet, Allah bless him and give him peace, told us that Allah said, “I am as my slave thinks I will be.” (Bukhari).
May Allah provide you with a good, halal income, and remove your debts and worries. Amin.
And Allah knows best.
