Can I Sell Dolls With Human Hair?

Question: Assalamu ‘alaykum. I sell Human Hair Head Dummies for training. Girls use these dummies to learn how to color, and to style hair. Is it permissible for me to sell human hair head dummy for training purposes? Synthetic hair dummies cannot be used for dye and styling.

Answer:

Wa ‘alaykum assalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.

I pray you are well.

No, it is not permissible to sell any part of the human body. Such a transaction would be invalid and would render the income impermissible. You would have to remove it from your possession by giving it to the poor or to a charity. (Usmani, Fiqh al Buyu’)

Ask Allah for help and look for an alternative. Perhaps something made from some types of animal hair, such as horsehair, can be a suitable replacement. If you cannot then it is best to look for another line of work. It may be difficult and prove inconvenient, however, the sacrifice and difficulty of the whole process will leave you much closer to Allah – and that is priceless.

May Allah facilitate an abundant, blessed, and halal income for you.
