The Passing of a Mountain: Shaykh Dr. Yusuf al-Qaradawi

Today, 29th Safar 1444 (September 26, 2022), the Umma lost a giant of Islamic scholarship, Shaykh Dr. Yusuf al-Qaradawi.

May Allah Most High have mercy on him, accept his efforts and contributions to knowledge, scholarship, and all his concern and service for the Umma of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his folk).

Shaykh Qaradawi’s scholarship expressed deep concern for the affairs of the Umma as a whole, and for the challenges facing Muslims in their lives, families, communities, and in society. He strived to address these challenges with courage and boldness and to present facilitative solutions. While some of his methods and some of his conclusions were contested by other scholars, what we have found from our teachers is a deep respect for his scholarship, contributions, and for his manifest concern.

May Allah grant Shaykh Qaradawi the very highest stations of Paradise. May Allah Most High accept and multiply his good deeds, efforts, and scholarly contributions, and overlook all else. May Allah grant us all a deep sense of urgency and concern at the loss of yet another giant of Islamic scholarship. May Allah grant us to benefit from the living inheritors of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

May Allah grant us to strive in seeking and spreading Islamic knowledge and guidance. May Allah grant us deep concern and striving to support and assist seekers of knowledge who will be the future scholars, teachers, guides, and leaders of the Prophetic Community.

Allah Most High says, “Verily, Allah is with the steadfast.” Steadfastness (sabr) isn’t passiveness. Rather, steadfastness is strength: it is to remain firm on all that is Pleasing to Allah, in the ways Pleasing to Allah. “And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the steadfast, Who, when distress strikes them, say, ‘Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.’ Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the truly guided.” [Quran, 2:155-157]
