How Can I Relieve My Anxiety Over No Marriage Prospects?

Question: I am a 31-year-old male. I have no job or money to my name, and I am single. I continually feel despair, worry, and pressure that I have no prospects in life. I worry that for me to get married I must be financially stable, but with no job and no savings, this seems a long way off. What can I do, or what du’a can I make to help me through this time and help me out of this constant feeling of worry and anxiety?

Assalamu alaykum,

Thank you for your question. I empathize with your frustration, and I pray that you grab your life by the reins and overcome your problems one by one. Allah is always with you, and He wants the best for His servants.

The absolute best advice that I can give you is in these links. These refer to your situation exactly. Please read them in full:

Supplication to get married

You may recite the following supplications for a spouse anytime:

رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَاماً

˹They are those who pray, “Our Lord! Bless us with ˹pious˺ spouses and offspring who will be the joy of our hearts, and make us models for the righteous.” [Qur’an, 25:74]

رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ

“My lord, I am in absolute need of the good You send me.” [Qur’an, 28:24]

Please do not despair, but rather, take the advice in the links above and make progress. Do not idly sit by and wait for a miracle to happen. Make yourself worthy to marry and work hard.-Find a steady job and save for about a year before proposing to a girl.
-Complete your education or get training first, if you need it, to get a job with a decent income
-If you can, start renting your own place so that you can taste independence and pay your own bills. Nothing will make you appreciate a wife more.
-Turn to Allah in the last third of the night and pray the Prayer of Need. Ask Him to help you put your life in order.
-Do not miss prayers, read Qu’ran every day with the meaning, and keep away from consuming the haram.
-Prepare yourself for marriage by taking this free course: pray that Allah blesses you in your career and blesses your union with a pious girl who can partner with you to create an Islamic and peaceful lifestyle.
