What Should I Do about My Prayers If Urine Leaks?

Question

What Should I Do About My Prayers if Urine Leaks?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.

I understand your cautiousness, but it is important not to overdo it; you have to ask yourself if you are being overcautious doing the squeezing, coughing, etc. Just do one thing and keep to it.

Follow the guidelines below:

  • Before performing wudu, you should be reasonably confident that the urine drops have stopped
  • Do not give into misgivings or mere thoughts that droplets of urine might have come out.
  • Sprinkle some water after you relieve yourself; this is a prophetic guideline
  • Observe other religious people and request them to share their experiences
  • Don’t go back on checking again and again; you have done what is to your best ability, then leave it; Allah will not hold to task, in sha Allah
  • Perform regular Kegel exercises, which have the great benefit of strengthening the pelvic floor muscle and holding the bladder together

Damaged Eardrum and Discharges

If you have a damaged eardrum and regular leak, there would be nothing wrong with putting cotton in your ear before performing wudu and praying to prevent any fluid from exiting.

If fluid from an ear infection flows out of your ear, it would invalidate your ablution (wudu).

Are You an Excused Person?

However, if the ear discharge does not subside for such a time that allows you to perform the bare minimum wudu and prayer before coming out again, which lasts for a whole prayer time, you are considered excused. You may follow the rulings of an excused person. See the link below.

Rulings of the Excused Person

If you fulfill the above condition, you are considered an excused person.

This means you are still considered in a state of wudu despite ear discharge. The following rules are a result of this dispensation:

  • You will need to make a new wudu for each prayer time. Once the prayer time exits, your wudu is considered invalid if any discharge comes out.
  • Then renew wudu; after entry of each prayer, you can pray any with that wudu any prayers, touch the Quran, etc, just like one with a full wudu.
  • Your wudu is invalidated by everything that breaks the wudu except for urine. Thus, passing wind, stool, sleeping, flowing blood, etc., will invalidate your wudu. You are only excused regarding ear discharge.
I would like you to go through the valuable answers and links below. You will receive guidance and direction in sha Allah.
