On Consistent Seeking of Knowledge in Order to Become a Person of Deep Religious Understanding]

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits. Jazakum Allah khayr for your participation in this blessed course. I pray that you benefited.

I would urge you to continue on the path of knowledge, as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whomever Allah wishes well for, He grants deep understanding of religion.” [Bukhari and Muslim] In this course, the need for clear religious understanding–coupled outward action and striving to uphold good character–as parents must have become clear.

How should you do this? Make a commitment to continue learning your deen, in a gradual, consistent, sustainable manner. For example, take one course each semester here at SeekersGuidance (www.SeekersGuidance.org).

What course should you take? See the full course catalog at: https://seekersguidance.org/courses. However, these are some suggestions:

1. A course on Islamic beliefs

Excellence in Faith & Action (from Ghazali’s 40 Foundations of Religion) is a very good first course in beliefs (aqida)

Islamic Beliefs for Seekers: Dardir’s Kharidah Explained gives one more thorough understanding of Islamic beliefs.

2. Prophetic Guidance and Islamic Manners

Prophetic Conduct: Islamic Manners in Everyday Life gives clear understanding of everyday Islamic conduct–essential for both parents and children.

Gardens of the Righteous: the Sunnah of the Sunnah explains how to approach, adopt, and uphold the Prophetic example in everyday life.

Getting Married: Islamic Guidance on Successful Steps Towards Marriage is one of our most popular courses, and very beneficial, insha’Allah, for both those seeking to get married or those already married.
3. Worship and Law

Absolute Essentials of Islam: Beliefs & Worship is an ideal first-course in both beliefs and worship.

Fiqh of Life: Essentials of Halal and Haram covers the limits of Allah related to everyday life, and will get answers to a variety of critical life questions on food, dress, gender interaction, work, earnings, relations, speech, and the avoidance of sin.

Islamic Law for Seekers (Hanafi, Part I): Worship is an intermediate-level course on the fiqh of worship.

Essentials of Maliki Fiqh: Mukhtasar Al-Akhdari is an introductory course in Maliki fiqh.
4. The Life of the Prophet
(Allah bless him and give him peace)

Meccan Dawn: The Life of the Beloved Prophet Muhammad
and
Medinan Nights: The Life of the Beloved Prophet Muhammad – Part 2 are two excellent courses for deeper understanding of the life of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace & blessings be upon him & his folk).
5. Spirituality

Seeking Allah: Imam Muhasibi’s Treatise of the Seekers of Guidance Explained is an excellent introduction to practical Islamic spirituality

The Marvels of the Heart, with Sh. Yahya Rhodus, covers an important book from Imam Ghazali’s Ihya. It offers a detailed explanation of the text, and explores the meaning of soul (nafs), spirit (ruh), heart (qalb), and intellect (’aql)–and leads one to become well acquainted with their own heart.
