How Can I Have a Confirmation from Allah Most High about My Guidance?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

I’m having some severe issues. I have doubts that kill me, and I can’t sleep because they bother me so much. The problem is that I grew up in Europe, where everyone had a critical-thinking mentality.

Now I doubt whether I’m rightly guided or not. The Quran and Sunna are not enough for the reasons mentioned above, which is why I need a personal response from Him.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

I pray you are in good faith and health.

I assure you that you are being guided; this is a sign of pure faith (iman) and guidance.

Abu Hurayra (Allah be pleased with him) said: “Some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) came to the Prophet and said to him, ‘We find in ourselves thoughts that are too terrible to speak of.’ He said, ‘Are you really suffering from that?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘That is a clear sign of faith.’” [Muslim]

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported, The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Satan will come to one of you and he will say, ‘Who created this and that?’ until he says to him, ‘Who created your Lord?’ When it comes to this, let him seek refuge in Allah and stop such thoughts.” In another narration, the Prophet said, “Let him say: I have faith in Allah.” [Bukhari; Muslim]

Stop Dwelling and Be in Good Company, Always

Try not to stress, and I suggest you continue working on increasing your acts of worship, performing the daily prayers, performing them in the congregation, seeking religious knowledge, and attending circles of remembrance of Allah. Good company in this way will eliminate your individual mindset and give you a collective mindset like others by being with them, in sha’ Allah.

Don’t focus on your actions but on Allah and how much He has given you. Be happy and thankful and invest your time in praising Allah for his favors upon you and sending Salawat on the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace).
