How Can the Rights of Others Violated in Pornography Be Corrected?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

Many people watch porn. Within porn, many girls are being wronged, exploited, and deceived, and some may even be fully raped. There are people who even deliberately look for rape porn.

When people watch this pornography and masturbate, I would imagine they are in on the crime of wronging these girls as well.

Since the rights of others are something that has to be rectified in this world, how do people who watched such pornography rectify their oppression in this context?

Do they seek up the girls in the videos and apologize? Do they do good deeds to reward these girls, although they may be non-Muslim?

Please shed light on this matter.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question. Knowing you have repented and are looking for guidance and direction is good. May Allah (Most High) keep you steadfast.

First and foremost, one must fulfill the true sense of repentance, regret, and remorse, never to return, and have a firm resolve. You do not have to seek the women. However, one should continuously pray for them and yourself to stop watching, committing, sharing, and telling others of this terrible sin. This is what you can do and work towards, maybe creating an awareness of how serious a sin this is with others.

Prophetic Dua

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) used to supplicate:

“O Allah, I make a covenant with You which I would never go against. I am a human being; any believer I give any harm or whom I scold or upon whom I invoke curse or whom I beat, make this a source of blessing, purification, and nearness to You on the Day of Resurrection.” [Muslim].

I leave you with the above prophetic dua, include non-Muslims with the guidance of Islam. It is the first step in any change for yourself. I pray that you are steadfast and that it stays with you forever.
