Is Reciting Certain Dhikr Bid’a?

Question:

People here recite this — “‘inni Wajjahtu wajhiya lilladhi fatar-as-samawati wal arda hanifan wama ana min-al-mushrikin”. I have been reciting the same, but recently, I came to know that it is bid’a to do so. Is it really bid’a? If not, what is the evidence for it being permissible?

Answer:

Wa ‘alaykum assalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.

I pray you are well.

Do not worry, this is not a bid’a. You may recite this as much as you want. It is a verse of the Qur’an [Qur’an, 6:79], and you should seriously question the religious knowledge of someone who says reciting something from the Qur’an is a bid’a.

Please take some time out and study our course “How Islam Works.” You will get a taste of the depth of scholarship. May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
