Can I Have My Baby Tooth Extracted to Make Room for My Permanent Tooth?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

I am in ninth grade, and one of my baby teeth hasn’t fallen yet, and I have visited different dentists, and they recommend I get the baby tooth removed in order to let the permanent tooth behind the baby tooth come forward. If I get my baby tooth removed and the permanent tooth doesn’t come forward, the dentist told me to get braces.

Recently the baby tooth is loosening a little bit, and I am afraid that if it breaks, I might have to get braces.

Is it permissible to get the milk tooth removed and get braces?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

I pray you are well.

It is absolutely fine for you to get rid of your baby tooth to make way for the permanent one and also to get braces done if need be.

Scholars have given permission to use braces due to need, such as setting right a defect, or straightening crooked and unaligned teeth, as might be the case with yours after removal.
