Is it Permissible to Have Music in the Background of an Advertisement?

Question Summary

Is it permissible to have music in the background of an advertisement?

Question Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

The core issue of this question goes back to the difference of opinion between the scholars of Islam over the permissibility of music in general. You can find the details regarding that here.

Advertisement Jingles

Aside from the discussions on music itself and the various opinions regarding it, I have heard from some of my teachers that scholars have taken a more expansive approach when it comes to the incidental presence of music as a background to advertisements, especially advertisements with religious goals.

That said, it is more cautious to use jingles that are merely a cappella, i.e., just a singing voice. It should be a male voice. However, as was mentioned, there is expansiveness in this regard.

Hope this helps
