Can I Earn Money Hosting Affiliate Marketing?

Hanafi Fiqh

Question

I want to earn money online and choose hosting affiliate marketing. I went there, but on most of the hosting websites, there are females without hijabs. Can I work for those websites? Will my earning be haram? Please help me.

When I choose a halal product on the landing page, females have no hijab—visiting any cloth and dress websites like Amazon Associates and Shopify and web hosting like Hostinger, Greengeeks, Bluehost, etc. I am getting confused about that. Will my earning be haram?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

I pray you are in good faith and health.

As long as you are promoting a product or service which is permissible and halal, then there is nothing with it, even though they might be offering other non-sharia-compliant products.

For example, if you were to recommend your friend or relative to shop at Walmart or Amazon because you think they have better item choices. The fact that Walmart and Amazon also sell impermissible and haram products does not make you a sinner.

Assist in Righteousness, Not in Sin

One must always remember the following verse before starting to work as an Affiliate marketer.

“And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.” [Quran, 5:2]

Bear in Mind

Also, bear in mind the following:

You will have to do your best to avoid promoting non-shariah-compliant products. Sometimes you will have to mention in the description the halal services you think this company or person is good for to avoid people misjudging you and believing you are involved in haram. As many products or services the company or the person might be offering may be haram.

Often, an automatic video opens up with music and women, like you have mentioned, and people are unaware of it, so one will have to consider this and inform them of it.

I advise you to consult and contact local scholars and Muslim finance professionals from now on.
