Are Adrenaline Supplements Halal?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question

Is adrenaline haram? I have been prescribed adrenaline as I have a rare allergy, where I can’t have fruit and vegetables that are plants where the skin can’t be taken off or the seed can’t be taken out or wheat and I can only have plain cereals due to what is in them. The adrenaline was prescribed to me as a precautionary measurement as they are unsure on whether I am may go into anaphylaxis.

Answer

I pray you are well.

Bismillah

If the adrenaline supplements are produced from unslaughtered or haram animals, it would not be permissible to use if there are alternative forms of medications available for you. Please consult your doctor on that matter.

If there is no other alternative then the adrenaline is permissible to take if it will, in the opinion of your doctor, help with your issue. (Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar)
