Can I Send the Reward of My Quran Recitation to the Deceased?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Ustadh Sufyan Qufi

Question

If wanting to read for deceased family members. would you have to read a surah or Quran per person in order for them to receive the reward? Or is it okay to read one sura yasin with the intention for the reward to go to multiple people?

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

It is possible for you to recite the Quran and to dedicate the reward of your recitation to several deceased. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

Scholars mention this expression to be uttered after your recitation:

“اللهم أوصل ثواب ما قرأناه  إليهم”

“O God, make the reward of what we have recited to them.” [Ibid]
