How Do I Do The Prostration of Forgetfulness If I Already Recited Tashahhud?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

If we remember that we need to make the prostration of forgetfulness anytime after reciting tashahhud supplication (al-tahiyyat), do we recite it again or just directly make salaam and the sujood?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

If one remembers that prostrations of forgetfulness are due after reciting the tashahhud supplication, they must make one salaam to the right, two prostrations, and then repeat the tashahhud supplication. [Tahtawi/Shurunbulali, Hashiyat Maraqi al-Falah]

If they have already reached the salaam, they must go straight into the two prostrations then on to the tashahhud supplication till the end of the prayer. Note that this is in the case that they did not do anything after the initial salaam that would break the prayer, such as talking, turning away from the qibla, etc… [Ibid.]

Hope this helps
