How to Handle Sexual Fantasies and Discharges?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

At times, my mind wanders into sexual fantasies, occasionally multiple times within a day. Sometimes, I notice a discharge during these episodes, but I’m uncertain if it is intentional or not. While experiencing these fantasies, I feel aroused, and the discharge appears thin and clear, occasionally feeling forceful. When I wipe it with a tissue, additional discharge often follows a few seconds later.

Moreover, after the emission subsides, if I prostrate, more discharge may occur unless I gently press my testes beforehand to release it. These episodes typically last for about 20-30 minutes.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question and for seeking guidance and direction.

You are experiencing either ejaculation of semen (mani) or pre-ejaculatory fluid (madhi), both as a result of fantasizing. In most cases, it is the pre-ejaculatory fluid that is being discharged.

You can distinguish between the different types of discharge by the details below:

  1. Semen (mani): a thick whitish liquid; when it comes forth with desire, the desire subsides; its smell is like pollen. One will have a bath.
  2. Pre-ejaculatory fluid (madhi): a thin, clear fluid that comes out during sexual arousal. It does not spurt out, and neither does one’s sexual arousal subside because of it. Often, one does not feel it coming out. One will have to do wudu each time. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah]

Dua

Shakal ibn Humayd (Allah be pleased with him) reported I came to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and I said, “O Messenger of Allah, teach me to seek refuge that by it I may seek refuge.” The Prophet took me by the hand, and he said,

“Say: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, from the evil of my seeing, from the evil of my tongue, from the evil in my heart, and from the evil of my seed (meaning his carnal passions).” [Tirmidhi]

Perform two raka‘s turning to Allah (Most High) and fast Mondays and Thursdays or the Three days of each Month

Marriage

‘Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said,

“Marriage is part of my Sunnah. Whoever does not act upon my Sunnah is not part of me. Give each other in marriage; I will boast of your great numbers before the nations. Whoever has the means, let him contract a marriage. Whoever does not have the means should fast, as fasting will restrain his impulses.” [Ibn Majah]
