Is it Permissible to Eat the Placenta?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question

Is it permissible for a lady to eat her own placenta?

Answer

I pray you are well.

No. Allah has honoured the human being, therefore, the human body has a sanctity which prevents it, or any part of it, from being permissible to eat at any time. Allah Most High said, “Indeed, We have permanently honoured the descendant of Adam…” (Quran, 17:70)

(Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al Muhtar)

Any benefits to eating the placenta you may have come across will surely be found in other, halal, sources.

May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.

I hope that helps. May Allah bless you with the best of both worlds.
