Question: As salam Alaykum,
My husband thinks that there is a Hadith forbidding to go to coffee shops. Is it true?
I sometimes spend time in it for Qur’an memorization when I can’t do otherwise.
Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
I pray that this message finds you well, insha’Allah.
There aren’t any traditions (hadith) concerning coffee shops because it wasn’t present nor discovered at that time.
In general, it would be permitted to go to a coffee shop as long as it is safe and dignified because it is not a place of sin. But if, in a particular culture or society, it is a place where only the corrupt gather, it should be avoided.
If your husband is objecting, you should talk to him tactfully and find out why he feels the way he does. May Allah Most High grant you success and facilitation.
