Should I Publish My Ebook on Kindle despite Amazon’s Support of Israel?

Hanafi Fiqh

Question

As an author, I’m conflicted about publishing my first ebook on Kindle due to Amazon’s support of Israel. Many alternative platforms are also affiliated with Amazon.

Should I publish on Kindle or refrain for ethical reasons?

Answer

I pray you are well.

The matter is an entirely ethical one, as entering into an arrangement with Amazon is permissible in and of itself here. The business transaction would be valid as long both parties are happy to proceed [Maydani, al-Lubab]

As for the ethics of the matter, I would encourage you to pray the istikhara prayer and see which path Allah opens up for you. The support Amazon and many other companies continue to offer Israel despite the thousands of well-documented and clearly evidenced atrocities is certainly concerning.

Many have chosen to boycott all such companies, and others prefer a targeted boycott. You can choose what to do after an istikhara.

May Allah facilitate what is best for you and bring the wrongdoers to justice. Amin.
