What If the Wetness of Madhi (Pre-Seminal Fluid) in My Underwear Transfers to My Jeans?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

I can see wetness on my jeans from being in contact with my boxers that have Madhi on them. Does this mean Madhi has transferred onto my jeans and therefore needs to be purified when it’s beyond the excusable amount?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

Yes. If your underwear has a pre-seminal fluid (madhi) on it and due to coming in contact with your jeans, a wet spot is visible on the jeans – the impurity of the madhi has transferred. [Tahtawi/Shurunbulali, Hashiyat Maraqi al-Falah]

If, however, the madhi did not clearly cause a wet spot on the jeans, the assumption is that the impurity did not transfer. [Ibid.]

If the amount of the combined amount of wetness from the underwear and the jeans exceeds the excused amount of 5 cm, it must be purified before praying in those garments. [Ibid.]

Hope this helps
