What Is the Reliability of the Tafsir Tanwir Al-Miqbas?

Hanafi Fiqh

Question

What is the reliability of Tanwir al-Miqbas Tafsir Ibn ‘Abbas according to the Ahnaf or the Ulema of other Madhahib?

Answer

The companions ‘Abdullah b. ‘Abbas was undoubtedly a major figure in tafsir, but the majority of his narrations are questionable. The tafsir in question uses the narrations of al-Suddi al-Saghir from al-Kalbi – which are the weakest and most problematic narrations of tafsir ascribed to him.

Therefore, it’s safe to say the ascriptions of the narrations to ‘Ibn ‘Abbas are not sound. You’d probably be better of using another reliable tafsir. (Dhahabi, al-Tafsir wa al-Mufassirun)

May Allah bless you with the best of both worlds.
