Will Every Human Being Be Resurrected and Held Accountable?

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

Will every human being to ever live be resurrected and held accountable for their deeds?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

The Resurrection

Every single human being, ever to have lived, from the time of the first human, Adam (upon him be peace), to the last person, will be resurrected after death for the Day of Judgment.

Allah Most High says, “˹Consider˺ the Day ˹when˺ every soul will come pleading for itself, and each will be paid in full for what it did, and none will be wronged.” [Quran; 16:111]

Also, “As such, Allah will reward every soul for what it has committed. Surely Allah is swift in reckoning.” [Quran; 14:51]

The Reckoning

As for the reckoning on the Day of Judgment, each person will stand before Allah Most High to account for all that they have done. However, regarding this, people will be of many different degrees.

1) There will be some who are not taken to task at all and there are many narrations regarding them.

2)There are some who will be given a light reckoning in which their deeds will be presented to them in order for them to realize the favor of Allah Most High in veiling those sins in the World and forgiving them in the Hereafter.

3) Those who will be questioned intensely about their deeds; thereafter, according to the Divine discretion they will either be forgiven or punished

4) Those who will be questioned intensely then punished, either eternally (if they are disbelievers) or for a designated period of time (if they are believers).
