Does Wearing Ear Correctors Affect the Validity of My Ghusl?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question

Behind my ears, I wear ear correctors which involve sticking the back of my ears to my head to prevent them from sticking out too much. They are waterproof and last a few weeks at a time. Taking them on and off frequently reduces their efficacy and they are relatively expensive. Would my ghusl be permissible if I left it on?

Answer

Unfortunately, they would affect the validity of your ghusl. A fard ghusl will not be valid with them on. [Shurunbulali, Nur al-Idah] See if you can find a cheaper alternative or another solution for this issue. It should be possible if it’s just a case of an adhesive surface.

If you can’t find anything then see that the cost is still low for the gift of being a Believer who knows what Allah wants from him and who is able to carry out those commands. This is priceless as its fruit lasts forever in Paradise. “Whatever you spend of the good Allah is well aware of it.“ [Quran, 2:215]

May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
