The Home of Peace (Dar al-Salam)

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

What is the ‘Home of Peace’ mentioned in the Quran; 10:26?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

Dar al-Salam (or Abode of Peace) has many interpretations:

1) The majority opinion of the Quranic exegetes is that it is a reference to Paradise, itself. In one way, this is because Paradise is the abode in which there is true peace. Another meaning is that al-Salam (the Giver of Peace) is the blessed name of Allah Most High, so the meaning is the Abode of Allah, the Giver of Peace. Again both of these are references to Paradise. [Qurtubi, al-Jami’ li Ahkam al-Quran]

2) The Abode of Peace, one of the seven levels of Paradise according to Ibn ‘Abbas.
[Ibid.]

Hope this helps
